Shun Kumagai lives and works in Akita, Japan. Phenomenon that cannot be seen by the eye is taking place inside a 1000 degrees kiln. The glass melts, joins with the clay and melts together with the metal. He creates the original shape, makes the mold, fills it with glass and fires it. Cools it, then carefully splits the piece from the mold, that molded shape has now become glass. Shun described his process as a “repetitive series of actions reminding of a prayer”.
This Glass piece by Shun Kumagai has been cast using glass and clay mixed with other materials to create a unique finish to the item.
